The Pillar Procedure - A 20 Minute Office Procedure to Stop Years of Snoring in Just One Visit

The sounds of snoring occur when there is a blockage to the flow of air through the air passage in the posterior area of the nose and mouth. This part of the airway is where the tongue and the back of the throat touch the soft palate.

Snoring sounds occur when these structures touch each other and vibrate during inhalation and exhalation. Studies show that more than forty-five percent of normal adults snore on occasion, and greater than 25 percent are chronic snorers.

Serious snoring issues are more prevalent in men and individuals who are overweight. Snoring symptoms often worsen with age.

Snoring is often worse when a person sleeps on his back. Some devices reposition the lower jaw forward; some open nasal air passages; a few others have been designed to condition a person not to snore by producing unpleasant stimuli when snoring occurs.

Snoring is a serious issue both and socially. Snoring causes embarrassment to himself/herself and often disrupts the sleep of loved ones. Disruption of normal sleep patterns is a serious medical problem itself.

Numerous bed partners choose to sleep separately because of sleep disruption. This often causes severe strain on a relationship. Snoring is also a severe medical issue because of its disruption of sleep patterns of the actual snorer and deprives the snorer of necessary rest. Severe snoring causes serious, long-term health problems, obstructive sleep apnea being one of those.

When an individual's breathing pattern is interrupted during sleep it is known as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Severe episodes of breathing cessation (apnea) last more than ten seconds each and occur more than seven times per hour.

Some OSA patients may experience more than 100 of these events per hour. These apnea events reduce blood oxygen levels, making the heart pump harder to deliver oxygen to the tissues.

Sleep apnea makes the individual sleep lighter and increases his effort to breathe in air to inflate the lungs. Patients with sleep apnea are often tired during the day because of the lack of sleep at night.

This lack of sleep affects job performance in a dangerous way and makes them hazardous individuals in the workplace and on the road. The elevated blood pressure caused by the increased work causes heart enlargement and other cardiac problems.

Snorers suffer from numerous other conditions including enlarged palates and uvula, poor muscle tone in the throat and tongue regions, bulky throat tissue, blocked nasal passages, and nasal deformities.

The enlarged uvula and soft palate cause an increase in the snoring intensity. The other issues just noted can disrupt airflow which worsens the snoring symptoms and OSA symptoms as well.

Heavy snorers, those who snore in any position or are disruptive to the family, should seek medical advice to ensure that sleep apnea is not the main problem. The physician will provide a thorough examination of the nose, mouth, throat, palate, and neck.

A sleep study (either in a laboratory environment or at home) may be necessary to determine how serious the snoring is and to determine if the individual has OSA.

In the past, there were only painful surgical procedures to address the issues of chronic snoring. The procedures include a uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, nasal surgery, uvula removal, tonsillectomy, and tongue base surgery.

All of these procedures are extremely painful, have a long recovery time, and have poor results for snoring. Less than 50% are successful in treating the snoring issue. Removable mouth devices have no effect on snoring. Some custom-made oral appliances are successful in treating OSA if the lower jaw is the issue, but they have no effect on snoring at all. Over-the-counter devices cause more harm than good.

Today there is a minimally invasive option to cure an individual's chronic snoring issues. The Pillar Procedure is an FDA-approved procedure to address the issue of chronic snoring and mild sleep apnea.

If you're one of the millions of people whose life is disrupted by this condition, you've probably tried many ineffective remedies to help you stop snoring. Fortunately, there's another option.

The Pillar Procedure is a simple, safe, and effective treatment that is designed to help you stop snoring and, in many cases, help people suffering from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). It's a relatively painless procedure that can be performed in a doctor's office in about 20 minutes, using only local anesthetic.

Thousands of people worldwide have been treated with the Pillar Procedure. You and your bed partner could be on your way to a more restful night's sleep with the Pillar Procedure. If snoring is keeping you awake, it's time to take action. Whether you are the one snoring or the one seeking refuge elsewhere, you know that a night of snoring means a night of interrupted sleep.

As discussed earlier, for many, snoring is caused by the vibration of tissue in the back of the mouth and the throat. During sleep, this tissue stretches and droops, thus reducing the size of the airway and obstructing breathing.

Researchers found they could diminish this vibration and obstruction by increasing the rigidity of the soft palate (roof of the mouth). The Pillar Procedure was developed in order to accomplish just that. Performed in the office, the Pillar Procedure involves implanting three to five small, woven polyester implants into the soft palate.

These implants stiffen and support the soft palate and keep it from drooping during sleep. No drooping means no vibration, and no vibration means drastically reduced snoring or no snoring at all. The implants are approximately 18mm (3/4") long and are made of a polyester-type material that has been used safely in sutures and implants for over 50 years.

The implants are designed to be invisible and don't interfere with speaking or swallowing. Most patients notice a significant improvement in their sleep in four to six weeks. Some patients even see immediate results. Because of these reasons, the Pillar Procedure is a simple, effective treatment for sleep apnea and snoring.

The Pillar Procedure is less invasive and less painful than other surgical procedures, completed in a single, short office visit, FDA-cleared, and clinically proven with results comparable to more aggressive surgical procedures. Most patients soon report a drastic reduction in snoring.

In clinical studies, almost 80% of patients' sleep apnea was reduced. 90% of patients and bed partners who have had the Pillar Procedure have a successful outcome. Patients also experienced less daytime sleepiness.

How does The Stop Snoring and Sleep Apnea Program Treat You?

The Stop Snoring and Sleep Apnea Program categorizes snoring into five unique types and explains how there are five root causes that block the airflow and obstruct it. Here are all five of them you can study in this ebook:

  1. The throat clamping down. This obstructs the air and vocal cords, causing a loud noise, and can even lead to sleep apnea in many cases.
  2. Tongue coming in the way of throat/falling into the throat. When you sleep, your tongue may get relaxed and heavy enough to fall into your throat. This can obstruct the airways too.
  3. Narrow nasal passages. If you have narrow nostrils, nasal passages, or a twisted nasal bone, you could suffer from blocked airflow in the nasal passages.
  4. Jaw tension or stiffness. This is the most common problem affecting almost 50% of the population. It blocks and narrows the airways.
  5. Weaker soft palate. If it is unusually big or weak, you have no option but to opt for surgery. However, with this program, you won’t need any surgery as well.

Keeping the five reasons and root causes in mind, The Stop Snoring, and Sleep Apnea Program is created to treat all kinds of snoring and Sleep Apnea, even if it has reached a very chronic condition.

Sleep Apnea Snoring Noise Affects the Health of the Non Snoring Partner Too

Sleep apnea can be a serious even life-threatening condition. Although snoring and sleep apnea are not necessarily synonymous, snoring is usually the attention-getter for the nonsnoring partner.

If you notice even brief pauses in the breathing or snoring of your partner during their sleep, he or she may be showing signs of sleep apnea. Only a trained medical professional can determine if a sleep apnea condition exists and an in-depth sleep study may be called for.

A little-known fact is that snoring, sleep apnea, or both do not necessarily cause sleep loss for the person who is snoring, although this can be an unwelcome side effect.

A critical factor that receives even less attention is the resulting sleep loss and insomnia, which has a direct health impact on the nonsnoring partner. People who have partnered with snoring sleep apnea often endure serious side effects of their own.

Everything from headaches, listlessness, poor concentration, dangerous driving conditions, and even life-threatening heart conditions can result from the erratic sleep patterns experienced by partners of sleep apnea snoring sufferers.

This very real problem that is experienced by partners and spouses of people who snore regularly, is on the increase in direct proportion to the near-epidemic increase in snoring-related sleep and health problems worldwide.

That being said, overcoming what is referred to as the awareness factor can be a very daunting task for the non-snoring partner. The difficulty lies in the fact that the person who snores generally has little or no appreciation for the impact that the snoring is likely to be having on their spouse.

Sometimes, unfortunately, this issue goes completely unresolved. Even if the person who is snoring is dedicated to finding a solution, there are very few actual snore snoring cures that really work.

This sends the insomniac partner on a quest to find a way to mitigate the snoring noise issue. Once again they are faced with an awareness issue. Only this time it is their own awareness or lack thereof.

Unfortunately with the help of misleading advertising. Most people believe that ear-blocking devices such as earplugs and noise-canceling headphones can prevent them from hearing typical snoring sounds to the extent that they can ignore them and fall asleep.

However, this is simply not true for most people, because of a dynamic of human hearing known as bone conduction.

In the case of snoring, bone conduction refers to the portion of the apnea snoring sound that is absorbed through skin, flesh, and bone and actually bypasses the outer ear altogether. The sound qualities of snoring, happen to be perfectly suited for traveling through these materials very efficiently.

People are usually shocked to learn about the scientific fact that 50% and sometimes even more of the snoring sound can reach the middle and inner ear, even if they had no outer ear at all.

For this reason, there really is no way to achieve this pseudo-deftness that people believe is possible. The only true way to be able to ignore sleep apnea snoring is by keeping the inner ear occupied with sounds that are capable of hiding the sound of the snoring turning on and off.

This technique is known as sound masking. Historically people have used the generic masking sound known as white noise for a variety of different uses. The problem with white noise-based products is that white noise is very poorly suited for masking the sounds of typical snoring profiles.

In fact, white noise is proven to be less than 50% effective in masking the sounds of common snoring. This results in one of two scenarios;

  1. The snore noise victim increases the volume of the white noise to damaging levels.
  2. They continue to listen to snoring sounds, now mixed with white noise.

With the advent of some emerging technologies, the good news is that some snore-targeted masking sounds have been developed that work surprisingly well.

People all over the world have already found that they can mask the sounds of snoring without using excessive volume levels and get their badly needed sleep, even while remaining in the same room with their partner. This was previously not possible.

One of the big benefits of these snore masking sounds is that they are immediately available to snore noise victims anywhere in the world and at any time of the night. Another unique benefit that this technique offers is the fact that you are not required to purchase any dedicated hardware and this keeps the cost very low.

Most people already own the hardware that they would need, which is simply some type of digital audio device ranging from modern cell phones to MP3 players or higher-end digital devices.

While it may not be possible to eliminate the source of the snoring noise or create a pseudo-deafness scenario, it is now possible to efficiently mask the snoring noise, so you can get your sleep.

How to Cure Sleep Apnea Without CPAP - A Definitive Guide

What if I told you that your Continuous Positive Airflow Pressure (CPAP) machine isn't the only way to cure your sleep apnea?

That's right folks, it is definitely possible to cure sleep apnea without CPAP. And by naturally, I mean without having to splurge on expensive machinery or subject yourself to the consumption of potentially harmful drugs.

So here is my ultimate guide to curing sleep apnea without CPAP, completely, naturally, and effectively.

Throat Exercises

No, this does not involve your throat picking up little dumbbells. Pardon my feeble attempt at humour. In all seriousness, throat exercises are known to reduce symptoms of sleep apnea by up to 39 percent, the only condition being that they're performed consistently.

Here are a few throat exercises that you can perform on your own:

  • Push your tongue up to the roof of your mouth and hold it in that position for 3 minutes.
  • Pretend as if you're yawning and open your mouth as wide as possible; thrust your tongue out as far as it can go. You can repeat this exercise 5 times.
  • Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth while saying words with open vowel sounds. (e.g. lie, see, glee, why)
  • Choose your favorite song and simply sing it out loud. Do this for about 3 songs.
  • Take a deflated balloon and attempt to inflate it through 5 deep breaths. The balloon should not be removed from your mouth at any point in this exercise.
  • Swallow your saliva consecutively 5 times
  • Place your tongue right behind your front teeth and make 'tsk' sounds. Do this continuously and at a fast pace for a minute and then rest. You can perform this exercise 5 times.

All of these exercises can be performed practically everywhere, optimally in the comfort of your own home if you don't want to get people staring at you.

Completing these exercises daily will strengthen your pharyngeal muscles. Keeping these muscles tight instead of soft will reduce your sleep apnea occurrences significantly.

Physical Exercise

In a study conducted by the University of Texas Health Science Center, they discovered a positive relationship between the frequency of sleep apnea incidence and obesity. This means that the more obese you are, the worse your sleep apnea gets. You are classified as obese if your BMI is above 40.

To calculate your BMI, simply divide your weight by your height multiplied by yourself (Formula: weight/height² or kg/m²) If you are overweight and have sleep apnea, you definitely have to start getting some exercise.

In some cases, sleep apnea may even be entirely cured once the sufferer hits a healthy weight range.

Taking brisk walks, slow jogging, and dieting will all contribute to your weight loss. Losing weight is a step-by-step procedure, and you can't expect yourself to burn everything off overnight. Before you even lose weight, you'll have to want to lose weight.

But as long as you take the first step, you've already overcome the biggest hurdle. So if you feel the need to go for a quick run, I suggest you do so right now. Just be sure to bookmark this page so you can get back to it when you're done!

Sleep on Your Side

Changing your sleeping position may not necessarily cure sleep apnea, but it can certainly reduce the number of incidences. The reason that sleeping on your back causes sleep apnea is that your tongue as well as soft palate end up sliding back, resulting in blockage. This blockage prevents your airway from passing through.

Sleeping on your side prevents all of this from happening, but you can certainly slide onto your back all over again while you're asleep.

There are wedge cushions on the market that are tailored for this specific purpose, so you may want to look at these inexpensive investments. They cost as little as $20 and compared to a CPAP machine, that's a huge bargain.

Avoid Alcohol and Sleeping Pills

If you're taking sleeping pills to fall asleep at night, then stop. If you're taking one too many beers or glasses of whiskey to fall asleep at night, then stop. I know this sounds harsh, but that's the truth.

Alcohol and sleeping pills are known to interrupt your breathing quite drastically. These substances cause your throat muscles to relax, resulting in airway blockage all over again.

The key to curing sleep apnea without CPAP is that you cannot allow your airways to be obstructed because that's the ultimate cause of sleep apnea. Eliminating any factors contributing to airway blockage is absolutely vital when it comes to curing sleep apnea without CPAP.

So please heed my advice, and take the extra step to avoid alcohol consumption or at the very least minimize it.

Chewing on Alternate Sides

If you noticed, we all have the habit of chewing our food in a designated area of our mouths; either the left side or the right side, but not both.

There aren't any serious health effects of chewing in this manner, in case you're wondering.

This technique of chewing on alternate sides instead of relying on one will help to increase the amount of movement made by your mouth and tongue.

Your mouth should be kept closed while you chew, for the sake of maximizing the effects of this exercise. And also for the sake of the people sitting around you.

It's an 'exercise while you eat' kind of thing, targeted at minimizing the occurrences of sleep apnea. Take it as one of those throat exercises we mentioned earlier, except no one will be stealing uncomfortable glances at you!

Play the Didgeridoo

What? That's probably the first thing you thought when you read 'didgeridoo'. I don't blame you, though. A didgeridoo is a wind instrument that was first developed in northern Australia.

A team of physicians from Switzerland conducted a study that concluded that playing the didgeridoo 6 days a week for half an hour per session will have positive effects on sleep apnea. So, it is proven that playing the didgeridoo regularly over a period of time will improve your sleep apnea condition.

This is primarily because it requires a good amount of breath to play it, so it's essentially a breathing exercise in itself. You can look at other wind instruments if you can't find a didgeridoo, but they may not be as effective or require as much breathing force as the didgeridoo.

As a substitute, you can look to double-reed instruments. Common examples of these instruments include the bassoon, the sarrusophone (which looks like a giant saxophone), and the oboe.

Drinking Plenty of Water

This sounds like the remedy to everything, but there is a reason behind doing so. The soft palate at the back of your throat tends to turn sticker when you are not sufficiently hydrated.

The stickiness of your soft palate will end up clogging your nasal passages, which will block airflow. And as I mentioned before, any sort of blockage must be eliminated. The stickiness will also further aggravate your snoring and sleep apnea.

Typically, a safe gauge would be to drink about 16 cups of water a day, or 3.7 liters if you're a male. If you're a female, you'll only require 11 cups of water a day, or 2.6 liters of water.

Herbal Remedies

There are a big variety of herbal remedies that claim to resolve a good number of sleeping issues including narcolepsy, insomnia and sleep apnea included. But since this a guide to curing sleep apnea without CPAP, we'll only expose to you the herbs that cater toward curing sleep apnea.

  • Vervain.
  • Valerian root
  • Chamomile
  • Passionflower
  • Hops
  • Lavender

Final Word

You don't necessarily have to hop on the CPAP bandwagon if you're experiencing relatively mild sleep apnea. It is absolutely possible to cure sleep apnea without CPAP usage. Natural remedies should never be undermined because of their lack of exposure to the masses.
